INTRODUCTION

This attractive GLOMACS Ship Energy Efficiency Management training course was prepared to provide awareness, knowledge and skills required of shipboard and office-based staff on ship energy management systems and plans and their implementation. It aims to provide general information on shipping management systems, details of ISO  50001 on Energy Management System, ship and company related management systems and plans and specific tools for monitoring of ship energy performance which includes energy reviews and audits, performance monitoring as well as data collection, monitoring and reporting including the IMO data collection.

This 5-day Ship Energy Efficiency Management training course was designed to lead the attendees to implement the key principles of ship energy management within the marine industry, introduce the tools that can assist in reducing energy usage, understanding of the regulatory requirements, think of various measures that can be put in place to improve energy efficiency / reduce pollution and give them practical awareness and knowledge of the responsibility towards preserving the environment.

This Ship Energy Efficiency Management training course will contain the following technical areas:

  • Principles of energy management systems and application to the marine industry
  • Current / future requirements on ship energy efficiency (EEDI, SEEMP and EEOI)
  • Alternative fuel for decrease in GHG Emission
  • Combination of operational measures and use of technology
  • Current best practice in diverse areas of energy management, including main/aux. power generation, boilers, energy recovery, resistance and propulsion, accommodation and services and cargo operations
  • Energy Efficiency options in operation (weather routing & trim)
  • An overview of ISO 50001

Objectives

Participants on this Ship Energy Efficiency Management training course will gain solid understanding and enhance knowledge on how to properly use and implement the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan and elements leading to the energy efficient operation of ships. The attendees will learn how to optimize fuel consumption and proportionally decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, perform efficient weather routine and speed optimization.

By the end of this Ship Energy Efficiency Management training course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the impact on the environment of release of greenhouse gases from ships
  • Identify the key regulatory requirements associated with Ship Energy Management
  • Understand the terms EEDI, SEEMP, and EEOI and clearly distinguish and identify the regulatory requirements for new ships and existing ships
Recognise the importance of a systems approach in improving energy efficiency
  • Describe the framework and structure of the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan
  • Discuss key tools, best practice and technologies that can assist in reducing energy usage and fuel consumption
  • Calculate EEOI from the given Voyage Data.

Training Methodology

This Ship Energy Efficiency Management training course will utilize a variety of proven learning techniques to ensure maximum understanding, comprehension, and retention of the information presented. The daily workshops will be highly interactive and participative. This involves regular discussion between both delegates and course director. The training course will provide the participant with an in-depth knowledge through detailed information, real-life case studies, photos, and video animation.

Organisational Impact

The Ship Energy Efficiency Management training course will ensure proper planning and implementation of the International Regulations, Standard, and Guidelines that are required to be maintained by all vessels including:

  • MARPOL Regulations according to the latest amendments
  • ISO Standard 50001 Energy Management System Requirements
  • EEDI, SEEMP and EEOI and clearly distinguish the regulatory
  • International Energy Efficiency IEEC Certificate

Personal Impact

This technical training course will provide the attendees with the optimum benefits on:

  • Defining the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan as a Management tool as required by the International Maritime Organization (IMO)
  • Assisting the ship operators and ship owners in managing the energy efficiency and air emission of their ships.
  • Planning for operational and technical measures that are implemented on board to improve efficiency and negative effects on the environment.
