INTRODUCTION
This training course will include the various tests for circuit breakers. The arc quenching principle determines the type and operation of a circuit breaker. The common medium voltage circuit breakers are usually gas insulated which is sulfur hexafluoride or SF6 and the vacuum interrupter type. The tests for SF6 gas include the dew point test and the purity test. Being gaseous leakage gases are imminent, and gas leakage detectors or sniffers are used to locate the leakage gas. Since sulfur hexafluoride or SF6 is declared as a greenhouse gas and with a very high global warming potential, alternative gases and gas mixtures to SF6 gas is an ongoing development.
The vacuum circuit breaker technology is making inroads towards a maintenance free circuit breaker which is very efficient and reliable. Outdoor high voltage circuit breakers like the live tank and dead tank are now replaced by the vacuum interrupter technology. As for the indoor gas insulated switchgears in incorporate the clean air technology. For a safe, accurate and secured operation of the circuit breakers under fault conditions, instrument transformers and digital numerical relays are included in the circuitry.
This GLOMACS Advanced Training for Switchgear training course will highlight:
