Introduction
This 5-day Advanced Seismic Interpretation training course provides interpretation techniques developed for seismic data sets and applications on seismic attributes, seismic sequence stratigraphy, structural geology. The training course will guide the participants in the integration of all available data sets into the seismic model adding value to successful seismic predictions.
The training course will help professionals gain a solid understanding of the applications and role of the seismic interpreter in studies that involve post-stack seismic attributes, seismic sequence stratigraphy, seismic geomorphology, Vertical Seismic Profiles and hydrocarbon accumulation characterization.
This GLOMACS Advanced Seismic Interpretation training course will highlight:
- Seismic visual perception, understanding and impact on interpretation
- Geological concepts, sedimentary models and structural styles
- Introduction to seismic interpretation software
- Depth conversion and different seismic velocities models
- Attributes analysis on sandstone and carbonate reservoir
Objectives
This is a hands-on training course focusing on interpreting seismic data sets. Participants will gain knowledge and hands-on practice on applications and role of the seismic interpreter in the industry.
By the end of this Advanced Seismic Interpretation training course, the participants will learn to:
- Have working knowledge of the full range of representative special interpretative methods
- Have experience on hands-on real data sets and real workflow in the oil industry, which he may carry out himself and/or supervise
- Be capable to accounting for the geophysical input in multi-disciplinary teams
- Be proficient on Seismic interpretation
Training Methodology
This Advanced Seismic Interpretation training course is evenly divided between the seismic expression of structural styles and seismic stratigraphy. After spending minimal time on acquisition and background theory, participants will be made acutely aware of impedance and resolution and identification of processing errors and how important it is to understand these before interpretation.
The participants will also be introduced to the structural complexity associated with fold and thrust terrains, extensional systems and various types of wrench faulting and salt/mud related deformation.
Organisational Impact
Advanced Seismic Interpretation training course is a key tool in the Oil and Gas industry, from early stages of exploration to production. As such the organizational impact of this training course is reflected in:
- Qualify staff with a key tool for the upstream industry
- Allow staff from different disciplines to have a common understanding of seismic data
- Define company-wide seismic data standards
- Boost staff capacity to correctly identify leads and prospects
- Capacitate staff with skills to quantify and risk hydrocarbon accumulations
- Refine the communication between geological evaluation and economic evaluation teams
Personal Impact
Advanced Seismic Interpretation training course is the main source of subsurface data in the oil industry. Any Geoscientist or Engineer will need to at least be aware of its fundaments, uses and limitations. Personal impact includes:
- Improve the knowledge of seismic data, and how it is acquired, processed and interpreted.
- Understand how faults, horizons and other features are interpreted and used for hydrocarbon exploration and production
- Develop skills in identifying hydrocarbon accumulations using seismic data.
- Ability to quantify and risk hydrocarbon accumulations
- Communicate more efficiently with other geoscience and engineering disciplines that use seismic data.
- Understand the wonders of geology imaged in the subsurface by seismic data
