INTRODUCTION
This attractive GLOMACS Peer Mediation for Police Organisations training course will enable the participants to become peer workplace mediators and deal with conflict, grievances, and other employee disputes in their workplace. This will provide the participants with a thorough understanding of peer workplace mediation, methods, and practices. Mediation is generally defined as the intervention in a negotiation or a conflict of an acceptable third party who has limited decision-making power, who assists the involved parties to reach voluntarily a mutually acceptable settlement of the issues in a dispute. Mediation can have success rates up to ninety percent and is one of the most effective forms of alternative dispute resolution.
During the five days, the participants will be given the opportunity to develop their skills in peer mediation using a co-mediation model suitable for police organisations and other uniformed services. There will be many practical sessions where the participants can practice and experience peer mediation techniques and practices. The skills learned on a very hands-on course can not only be used in mediation practice but also will equip participants with skills useful for all management, leadership, and officer roles. Many Police Organisations world-wide have found peer mediation to be a cost-effective way of reducing costs, lowering turnover, and improving the overall performance of their organisations.
