INTRODUCTION
“Stress and unhappiness come not from situations, but how you respond to situations” - Brian Tracy
Recent research shows that damage caused by negative stress is increasing all the time. Now is the time to take countermeasures. The increase of work-related stress can partly be explained by the increasingly hectic society, as well as the steadily growing economic restraints. Ever striving for further competitiveness forces many organizations to carry through structural changes and cut costs. Besides the increasing workload, there is also an increasing sense of insecurity that emotionally burdens officers.
For today's police departments, work-related stress is one of the causes of high expenditure. It is the greatest threat to improved productivity and staff wellbeing. When the demands and the emotional pressure on the job become too high, nervousness, anxiety, fear, addictions, depression, and burn-out are possible results. The consequences for the business could be, among others:
- Absences through illness and accidents
- Mistakes, poor organisation, and greater risks
- Unhappy community
- The conflict between colleagues and the community
- Lack of motivation and less involvement
- Low productivity and innovation
This Stress Management for Today's Policing training course will develop the techniques and proven stress reduction methods that the participants can apply at work and in their daily lives.
