Introduction

The maritime sector is vital to global trade and economic stability, but its importance also makes it a prime target for various security threats, including piracy, terrorism, smuggling, and cyber-attacks. To address these concerns, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) introduced the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, a standardized framework designed to identify and mitigate security risks within maritime operations.

The Maritime Security Management & Control per ISPS Code training course is tailored to provide maritime professionals and others in related fields with an in-depth understanding of security concepts, threat management techniques, and compliance with the ISPS Code. This training is crucial for those responsible for implementing security protocols on ships and in port facilities to maintain a safe and secure maritime environment.

This GLOMACS training course combines the IMO Model Course 3.19 for Ship Security Officers (SSOs), IMO Model Course 3.20 for Company Security Officers (CSOs), and IMO Model Course 3.21 for Port Facility Security Officers (PFSOs). The training course is designed to fully prepare delegates to handle the responsibilities of PFSOs, SSOs, and CSOs. Participants will gain practical knowledge and competence in securing ports and ships, carrying out Port and Ship Security Assessments, and developing, implementing, maintaining, and updating Port Facility Security Plans (PFSP) and Ship Security Plans (SSP). Additionally, the training course covers the necessary coordination with port authorities, SSOs, and CSOs.

Objectives

By the end of this Maritime Security Management & Control per ISPS Code training course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the ISPS Code, its objectives, and the legal framework governing maritime security
  • Examine the duties and responsibilities of security officers across ports, ships, and offshore facilities, focusing on their role in ensuring adherence to security protocols and maintaining safety standards
  • Assess security risks, threats, and vulnerabilities to develop effective security measures for maritime and offshore environments
  • Develop and supervise the implementation of a Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP) in line with ISPS Code requirements
  • Promote and maintain a security awareness and vigilance culture within maritime and offshore operations to enhance proactive security management

Training Methodology

This Maritime Security Management & Control per ISPS Code training course will blend presentations with instructor-led interactive discussions, allowing delegates to engage based on their specific interests. To enhance learning, the training course will incorporate practical exercises, video content, and real-world case studies that foster meaningful discussions and provide maximum value to participants. Throughout the training course, there will be a strong focus on using real-life examples and case studies drawn from the instructor's personal experience to illustrate key points.
