Course Description

INTRODUCTION

The economies of countries are built on industries and sectors that, together, shape and form how countries develop. One of the most important industries that contribute in the development of the countries is the construction industry. The construction industry is critical to the development of any country.

Construction projects are the building units of the construction industry and within the construction projects; different contractual relations are created and administered in order to make sure that the projects are executed according to the agreed upon terms and conditions.

This GLOMACS Introduction to Construction Contracts training course will highlight:

The importance of construction contracts in relation to the construction projects. By the end of this training course participants shall acquire the basic knowledge and skills needed to perform the different main tasks that the contracts engineers perform during the various stages of the construction project in the three main entities of the construction industry (owner, consultant and contractor).

Objectives

To introduce participants to the different main tasks that the contracts engineers perform during the various stages of the construction project in the three main entities of the construction industry (owner, engineer/consultant & contractor). 

At the end of this Introduction to Construction Contracts training course, you will learn to:

Perform the following tasks (on an entry/junior level):

  • Selecting Project Delivery System, Contract Type & Form
  • Selecting Consultants, Contractors & Subcontractors/consultants
  • Drafting, Reviewing, Administrating & Closing Consultant/Construction Contracts & Subcontracts

Training Methodology

The main method of delivering the learning outcomes of the training course will be via simulations. Participants will be given different tasks to perform “Assignments”. The objective of each assignment will be to provide participants with the introductory/basic/entry level skills needed to perform the different tasks performed by the contracts engineer on an “as practical as possible” basis. Assignments have been designed in order to simulate real-life tasks that are performed by contracts engineers.

Before tasks are given; basic knowledge needed to perform each task will be provided to the participants via:

  • PowerPoint Presentations; explaining the different topics needed to perform the different tasks.
  • Lecture Notes; which shall be provided to participants after each PowerPoint presentation, such notes shall contain the main points that were tackled in each topic.
  • References; in each lecture notes references shall be identified in order to provide participants with further resources to investigate on each of the provided topics.
